Annapurna Circuit Trekking is the longest and most exhilarating trek in the Annapurna region. The magnificent Annapurna mountain range, located in northwestern Nepal, offers a breathtaking backdrop for this journey. Beginning from Chame, the trek takes you through the stunning landscapes of the Marshyangdi and Kaligandaki river valleys.
Filled with natural and cultural wonders, the challenging Annapurna Circuit Trek provides an unforgettable experience and lifelong memories of your Himalayan adventure. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to visit centuries-old Buddhist monasteries, stupas, and Hindu temples.
The trek is renowned for its stunning views of the Annapurna, Manaslu, and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges, including Mount Annapurna I (8,091 meters), Mount Manaslu (8,163 meters), and Mount Dhaulagiri (8,167 meters). The Annapurna Circuit Trek traverses diverse landscapes, from tropical climates to alpine zones and lush green river valleys to the Trans-Himalaya.
From Chame, you enter the rain-shadow Trans-Himalayan zone of Nyashang (Manang Valley). Manang is home to the Nyashang people, descendants of Tibetans who arrived long ago and still maintain a unique culture. Surrounded by some of the most dramatic snowcapped mountains, the local people engage in their lodgekeeping business and farming during the off-season.
The highlight of the Annapurna Circuit Trek is crossing the Thorong-La Pass (5,416 meters), a significant achievement that rewards you with breathtaking views of both sides of Manang and Mustang Valley. The other side of the trek, in Kaligandaki Valley, Muktinath, and lower Mustang, is equally interesting, where you can witness the unique local lifestyle of the mountain communities and experience their warm hospitality and culture.
Muktinath temple is a symbol of religious tolerance, being worshipped by Hindus, Buddhists, and Bons in the same shrine. The lower Kaligandaki Valley is considered the deepest gorge between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna, both over 8,000 meters. While there are several endpoints for this trek, the ultimate place to finish is Pokhara, a charming city situated in a beautiful valley with lakes and mountains.
Annapurna Circuit is possible to trek for most of the year, but some seasons may not be convenient. Avoid the Monsoon (June to Mid-September): Heavy rains and landslides make trekking challenging during these months. Autumn (Mid-September to November) is perfect for trekking with clear blue skies and minimal bugs and dust. Spring (March to May) offers warmer weather and blooming Rhododendrons, but be mindful of possible haze in lower altitudes towards April/May. Winter (December-February) provides a peaceful trek with fewer crowds but be prepared for colder temperatures and potential snow closures at Thorong La Pass, which may require a detour.
