Bardia Jungle Safari: Let’s Explore the Untamed Wilderness of Nepal
Bardia National Park, Nepal’s largest and most renowned jungle safari destination, offers an unparalleled wildlife experience. Located 585 kilometers southwest of Kathmandu, Bardia National Park is a haven for nature lovers, encompassing the lush Babai Valley and boasting a diverse ecosystem. Originally established as a Royal Hunting Reserve in 1976, it was renamed Bardia National Park in 1982, spanning 968 square kilometers.
Discover the Rich Biodiversity of Bardia National Park
Bardia National Park is Nepal’s most pristine Terai wilderness, characterized by dense Sal forests, grasslands, and meandering rivers. It is home to endangered species like the one-horned rhinoceros, wild elephants, Bengal tigers, swamp deer, blackbucks, crocodiles, and the rare Gangetic dolphin. Birdwatchers will delight in over 300 species, including the endangered Bengal florican, lesser florican, and Sarus crane. Bardia National Park is truly a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts in southwestern Tarai.
Experience Local Culture with the Tharu Community
Beyond wildlife, visitors can engage themselves in the rich culture of the local Tharu people. Known for their unique traditional lifestyle, the Tharu community’s houses are constructed with bamboo and coated with mud and dung, often adorned with colorful paintings and carvings. Connecting with the Tharu community provides an enriching cultural experience that complements the thrilling wildlife adventures of your Bardia Jungle Safari.
Best Time for Bardia Jungle Safari
The most ideal times to do the Bardia Jungle Safari are from late September to early December and late February to April. Temperatures range from 25 to 37 degrees Celsius during these months, making it easier to spot animals near rivers. You have a higher chance of spotting the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger during these periods. From mid-December to the end of February, the weather can be cooler and occasionally foggy. From mid-spring, temperatures rise to 40 degrees Celsius, and humidity increases, making jungle safaris less appealing. The monsoon season, from June to the end of September, has high humidity, which makes access to the park challenging.
