Chitlang Valley: A Historical Gem
Chitlang is an ancient Newari settlement nestled in the northern part of Makawanpur district, approximately 25 kilometers southwest of Kathmandu. The breathtaking Chitlang valley, situated at an altitude of 1835 meters above sea level, holds significant historical and archaeological importance. According to an inscription left by King Angshubarma at Tokhel, the king granted the land to shepherds and established settlements for them at Tokhel, Nulgaun, Kunchal, and other places. Some historians believe these people were called Gopal and belonged to the Gopal dynasty. In present days, they are called Gopali.

The Chitlang Valley is primarily inhabited by Newar, Tamang, Khas, and Thakuri peoples. It has been known by various names, including Chitrapur, Shudhapur, Kolapur, Hastinapur, and Champur.
