Lakuri Bhanjyang Day Hike: A Scenic Escape Near Kathmandu
The Kathmandu Valley is surrounded by the hills of the same name. Among these, Lakuri Bhanjyang is one of the most beautiful day hiking destinations near Kathmandu. Offering a 160° panoramic view of the Kathmandu Valley and the majestic Himalayan range, this hike is a must-do for nature lovers. The hike usually begins from Lamatar, leading through less crowded and scenic trails. Within just 15 minutes of walking, you’ll be treated to stunning views that continue throughout the hike, showcasing the countryside, charming villages, terraced farmlands, and providing a glimpse into local life and cuisine. It’s the perfect day to escape from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu.

The Lakuri Bhanjyang Day Hike typically takes 6-7 hours, starting from Lamatar after a short drive from Kathmandu city center. The trail winds through picturesque landscapes with breathtaking views, leading up to Lakuri Bhanjyang. From there, the hike continues east along a dirt road track to Ranikot, where the ridge offers spectacular views on both sides, perfect for photography enthusiasts. The descent takes you to Ghyampe Danda and eventually down to Suryabinayak via the serene Pilot Baba Ashram.

This hike is accessible year-round, but the best time to explore Lakuri Bhanjyang is from late September to May. Autumn offers clear skies and magnificent mountain views, while winter provides cooler temperatures with equally stunning vistas. Spring brings vibrant rhododendrons and wildflowers along the trail, enhancing the already breathtaking scenery. The monsoon season from June to August, while lush and green, can make the trail slippery and less enjoyable.
