Lower Solukhumbu Region Trekking is the best way to observe the diversity of nature and the various cultures of different ethnic groups in the region. There are many trekking alternatives of varying lengths to accommodate your length of stay. Typically, the treks start from Jiri, a 6-7 hour bus drive from Kathmandu, and end at Phaplu/Salleri. Salleri is the administrative headquarters of the entire Solukhumbu district. However, now there are more options for beginning the trek in the Solukhumbu Region, including Dhap, Phaplu, Mingmo, Bhandar, Maili Village, and Khiji. The highlight of trekking in the Lower Solukhumbu region is the breathtaking panoramic view of the Himalayas from the top of Pikey Peak (4040m), which includes Mt. Everest and many other snow-capped peaks ranging from Mt. Kanchenjunga in the east to Mt. Manaslu in the west. In addition to the breathtaking scenery, the region is also rich in local culture, with fascinating traditions and customs that have been preserved for centuries. Moreover, the local cuisine is a treat for the taste buds, featuring a variety of delicious local dishes made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The villages themselves are small and remote but adorned with ancient and sacred monasteries. The best seasons to visit are autumn and spring. Autumn, from October to December, offers a clear blue sky, an absolutely amazing view of the majestic Himalayas, and perfect temperatures. Spring, from March to May, allows one to witness the spectacle of blooming rhododendron forests and many other wildflowers.

Visitors to this region should not miss visiting Thupten Chholing Monastery, which is one of the main religious centers of the entire Everest region and was home to the late 31st reincarnated Thulsik Rinpoche. Thulsik Rimpoche was one of the main religious figures of Buddhism in Nepal.

Beyond this point, you have the closest views of Mt. Karilung, Khatang, and Numbur. These mountains are regarded by the locals as the home of the protective deity of the Solu Region. Each year in August/September, a cleansing ritual is performed at its sacred lakes of Dudhkunda. During this festival, thousands of devotees and hundreds of Jhankris (Shamans) walk to the lake for the festival from different parts of the country.
