Nar Phu is a hidden valley in the Annapurna Region, perfect for those seeking an off-the-beaten-path Trekking in Nepal. This unspoiled trekking route offers a real Himalayan wilderness experience combined with rich Himalayan Buddhist culture. Journeying through narrow canyons, beautiful forests, dramatic mountain cliffs, waterfalls, remote Tibetan villages, ancient Tibetan Buddhist monasteries, colorful Mani walls, stupas, and magnificent mountain views makes the Nar Phu Trek so special.

Little History of Nar Phu Valley
Nar Phu Valley, previously unknown to much of Nepal, lies close to the Lamjung district in the south. Despite Lamjung being the central administration of the area, it remained outside their outlook post. Manang, the closest neighboring village, dominated Nar and Phu in many aspects. The villagers of Nar and Phu were the main source of labor, yak meat, and butter for Manang. In the 1960s, Tibetan warriors known as Khampas arrived in Nar Phu Valley. They established dominance in the area until their expulsion from Nepal in 1964. Nar-Phu Valley was opened to foreigners in 2002 and requires a special permit for trekking and climbing.

Nar Phu Valley Trekking Adventure
Nar Phu Trekking starts from Kathmandu with a drive to Besisahar, entering the remote countryside before continuing to Koto. Here, you leave the popular Annapurna Circuit Trekking trail and head northeast, following Nar Khola (River). The Nar Phu Valley Trekking is an enthralling journey through deep river gorges, massive mountain cliffs, and rushing rivers and waterfalls, adding to the excitement of the adventure.

Largest Villages in the Valley: Nar and Phu
Nar and Phu are the largest villages in the valley, situated in the northeast of the Annapurna Region and east of Manang, surrounded by beautiful snowcapped mountains. During the Nar Phu trek, you will encounter beautifully crafted Mani walls, stupas, and ancient Buddhist monasteries. The trek offers a deep dive into Tibetan Buddhist culture, religion, and warm hospitality.

Kang La Pass: The Highest Point of the Trek
Kang La Pass (5320m) is the highest point of the Nar Phu Trek, providing incredible mountain views of both sides and the valleys, including the massive Annapurnas and Manaslu. After crossing Kang La Pass, if you have time, you can continue to the Annapurna Circuit Trek or trek to Manang and drive back to Kathmandu.

Best Time to Trek Nar Phu Valley
The best time to trek Nar Phu Valley is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (mid-September to November) seasons. These periods offer the best weather conditions for trekking in Nepal, clear skies, warmer temperatures, and breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes.
