UK-based Rough Guides has revealed its top 10 countries of holiday destination for this year (2016) where Nepal has been placed at no.1 spot in the list stating Nepal is a Himalaya country with varied landscapes-from the Himalayas to jungles inhabited by tigers, elephants and rhinos.
After a series of earthquake and aftershocks Nepal’s tourist industry is on the rise again, with trekking routes being reopened and resilient Nepali people back on their feet. And according to the travel publisher hopefully the dollars spent by tourist ends up in local pockets.
Nepal is also listed in the 6th spot among 16 cool locations to visit in 2016 by another UK-based travel publication, National Geographic Traveller (NGT). According to the statement made by NGT Nepal is once more open for business and safe to visit after the devastating earthquakes when tourist numbers plummeted to 85%.
Additionally, the world’s leading travel guide Lonely Planet in the December travel tips on “Visiting Nepal during the fuel crisis” has mentioned that a new crisis- the fuel crisis is threating the Nepal’s fragile recovery after the massive earthquakes on April 25th and May 12, 2015. However, this blockade could end in a day or could continue and United Nations are negotiating to break the impasse (blockade by India). Moreover the Nepali people are resourceful and disrupted fuel supplies are nothing new for the land-locked Himalayan nation.
