Phulchowki (2782m) hill is considered the highest hill located south of Kathmandu Valley. If you are tired of city noise, looking for an escape, and want to experience an adventure in nature, then the Phulchowki Day Hike is the perfect destination for you. The Phulchowki Hill offers a pleasant one-day hiking experience, providing an excellent view of Kathmandu Valley and a grand panoramic view of the Himalayas, stretching from Annapurna in the west to the Gaurishankar and Dudhkunda mountain ranges in the east, including Mount Everest.
The Phulchowki Day Hike best Route
The Phulchowki Day Hike begins at Godawori, approximately 15 km from the center of Kathmandu city. At the base of Phulchowki Danda, you will find the beautiful Bhairab Temple and nine traditional water spouts. After visiting the Bhairab Temple, the trail gradually ascends through a dense subtropical forest.
As you hike through the beautiful forest, you will hear birds singing and may even spot wild animals such as Wild Boar, Deer, Monkey, Leopard, and Marten, which are common in this area. The abundance of birds makes Phulchowki an ideal destination for birdwatchers. At the top of Phulchowki, you can enjoy a 360-degree view, and the place is also a pilgrimage site for Hindus. The Phulchowki Mai Temple is situated on top of the hill, offering breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains and the surrounding valley, including Kathmandu City. The return path of the Phulchowki Day Hike is the same, and the hike concludes at Godawari.
Best Time for Phulchowki Day Hike
The prime season for the Phulchowki Day Hike spans from October to May, when the weather is generally calm and clear, providing ideal conditions for an enjoyable Day Hike. It’s advisable to avoid the monsoon season (June to August), as the trails can become slippery and overgrown. In spring, the forested areas burst into color with blooming rhododendrons and other wildflowers, enhancing the beauty of your hike.
