Sanga Nagarkot Day Hike is a new hiking destination near Kathmandu City. It’s likely one of the best one-day hikes in the area. The hike begins at Sanga Bhanjyang, located southeast of the Kathmandu Valley.

During this one-day trek, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of Kathmandu and Banepa Valley. The hike explores charming hillside villages, terraced farmlands, and viewpoints offering panoramic vistas of both valleys. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to visit various temples, including the small Saraswati Temple, the newly constructed Latarambheshwor Mahadev Temple, the Palancheki Bhagwati Temple, and the Indrasheva Temple. You can also explore the magnificent Dhakpe Sedrupling Buddhist Monastery at Nala Bhanjyang. From Nala Bhanjyang, we hike through a pleasant pine forest to Dulal Village.

The hike continues uphill to Nagarkot Viewpoint via Kalmasi. Nagarkot Viewpoint, located east of Kathmandu at an elevation of 2175 meters, offers stunning panoramic views of the Himalayas, from Manaslu in the west to Everest in the east.

This hike can be enjoyed throughout the year, but the ideal period to do the Sanga Nagarkot Day Hike is between late September and May. During autumn, you are treated to clear skies and spectacular mountain views. Winter brings cooler temperatures, making the hike comfortable and offering breathtaking panoramas. In spring, the trail comes alive with beautiful rhododendrons and other wildflowers, adding a splash of color to the stunning landscape. Although the monsoon season from June to August turns the surroundings lush and green, the trail can become slippery because of heavy rainfall, making the hike less pleasant.
